Today is a great day. It has been 161 years since one of the best inventors was born. As the Huffington Post said, we are not used to celebrate 161st anniversaries, “but then, Nikola Tesla wasn’t exactly normal”.

Physician, mathematician, inventor, electric engineer, born in Smiljan on the morning of July 10 1856, he is the reason why you are sitting where you are, reading what you are reading. Obviously, not only because of him, but thanks in part to him. Inventor of the radio, synchronous electric motor, polyphasic alternator, Tesla coil, radio control, Tesla’s oscillator, some fluorescents… made his way into the modern world from a little village in the Eastern Europe. His famous partnership with George Westinghouse lead him to beat Edison’s system for lightning the streets and powering homes. Back in 1925, he even predicted smartphones.

We shall be able to communicate with one another instantly, irrespective of distance. Not only this, but through television and telephony we shall see and hear one another as perfectly as though we were face to face, despite intervening distances of thousands of miles; and the instruments through which we shall be able to do his will be amazingly simple compared with our present telephone. A man will be able to carry one in his vest pocket.
